FC Barsa & Leeds Futsal Club

Futsal Club Barsa in 2006

2010 is the first year that the FA National Futsal League sees the presence of Leeds Futsal Club.

Before then the club competed under the name of FC Barsa and had a nomadic existence playing all its home games in either Hull or Sheffield.

The team was formed by Coach Kevin Barr from boys who had played or had connections with North Leeds junior football club Wigton Moor. Kevin had an ambition to take his players to the highest level, which he was able to do in the club's first season.

After winning the Leeds Futsal League in 2006 the club qualified to play in the FA National Championships in Sheffield. The average age of the team at this time was under 18.

FC Barsa continued its progress when it was invited to join a regional futsal league in Hull. It played there until it joined the Northern division of the National Futsal League in February 2008.

2010 sees another change in the history of the team as it now has a base in its home town at Leeds University. To reflect this long awaited development the club changed its name to acknowledge its local connection.

Since then the squad has also seen a change of personnel and the 2010 season sees its first foreign born British based players and a new manager Brazilian ex-professional Junior Roberti, who now lives in Leeds.

The" FC Barsa" name will live on in the guise of the reserve squad, but the team representing Leeds in the FA National League will be referred to as "Leeds Futsal Club".
